I find that I'm closer to people who have iOS devices than people who don't. I think it's the way iMessage works. It feels so vague texting to someone through text message.

I love actually knowing that someone has 1) read my text and 2) chose to reply to it. It eliminates the whole either-turn-off-the-screen-or-stare-at-it-for-a-while thing

I find this to be true as well, I hate that technology has dictated who I talk to more often.

I hate that the people that matter the most to me for texting (dates and crushes) almost always have Android/Windows/Blackberry devices.

It's reaffirming to see "Delivered"/"Read ___" at the bottom of my texts. Takes all of the guesswork out of "did she get my text?", "did she read it???"

When sending texts across platforms and across different carriers, I find my texts sometimes don't make it...and some of them are damn important...

I actually switched off of Apple earlier this year. I don't regret or miss it for a second. Apple is very controlling and vindictive with their setup. They forced iOS 7 on us, and then my opinion was only reinforced by the fact that getting my number off of iCloud and working for text message to my new Android phone was a 30 day process.

If Apple were a girl, they'd be abusive and controlling, and then when you break up with her, she tries to sabotage any other relationship you try to build.

I like texting via Whatsapp, or similar services, I don't know why on earth the hell we still use text messaging when texting apps are free to use as long as you have a data plan.

I also loved disabling read reports, since that information can be damning at times.

I'm in the same boat, I bought an HTC One M7 4 months ago and haven't looked back. Battery life is much better than any of my apple products, and the design is far more sturdy. Apple is actually in litigation for the issues with iMessage not deactivating properly, the only time I ever dislike my phone is when anybody with an iPhone tries to group message me. It works, but my god is it unresponsive.

I don't have an iPhone anymore, but I absolutely disabled that feature. Couldn't help but feel it is none of their business, makes it seem more like a ball and chain than a cell phone at that point.

I have no drama so to speak, so it doesn't bother me

I don't either, I just found it typically creates drama, often unintentionally.

Not to mention my wife and our 2 best friends often have a 4-way text thread and 3 of us have iPhones and the other 1 does not. Emojis (I don't use them) show up as squares to non-iPhones which often creates more confusion than anything. Once all 4 of us have iPhones things will be a lot easier. Additionally the typing bubble won't show up if you have a non-iPhone in a text thread

I have it disabled too. All they get is "Delivered". Sometimes I can read a text but can't reply to it right away.

However, most of those I do text with iDevices don't know it does it or know how to turn it off, so I see when they read my text.

At the very least, I like knowing that they got the text.

Ah yes, in order for Androids to receive Emojis they have to get the Android version of the app.

Another thing I like is not having a character limit. Sometimes I have something to say that requires more than just 160 characters.

I love my LG Android, but stuff like iMessage and a bigger app-store really make me want an iPhone. Plus nifty fingerprint scanner.

Exactly. I use Whatsapp as well, I only text the very few people who don't have a smart phone. Like my parents. The upside of Whatsapp is that it's multi platform, not a recourse hog and yet it does everything I need it to do. It also offers sent and received checks.

Not living in the US I know very few people who use an Apple phone to be honest. Android is king here, and recently I've been seeing more Windows phones than Apple phones.

As an Apple guy, that's one of the many things I love about Android. Things are really lax. You can customize what you what and do what you want and nobody will care.

iCloud is a PITA, but at least it makes it even more stupid to steal an iPhone as it turns it into a really fragile brick.

Exactly! It's rare, but it's not sent in parcels that have the recipient going "... huh?"

Also, pictures. I can send pictures and videos of random stuff to my friends without having to worry about going over data limits (if I have wifi)

Well I'm glad to hear that someone is finally holding them accountable for their mob tactics. Think about it, almost every carrier has a window for return/exchange for new phone now. Its like Apple is holding your number for ransom. I'm sure there's been plenty of people spooked by the iMessage thing that's gone back to Apple after they found out.

I say Android is the way to go if you like customizing or being able to control your phone. If you want a set it and forget it, that for the iPhone. Both have good points, I just really can't stand the way Apple treats its customers.

Can't disagree there. Apple makes us jump through a bunch of hoops service. Though, I haven't found Microsoft to be better either. Took them over four years to change the email address associated with my Live ID after I got hacked.

Though, the only thing I truly can't stand are extreme fanboys. There are things to be desired about all phones/operating systems out there.

I mean, on the surface, I look like your sterotypical Apple cultist (I have several Macs, iPods, iPhones, Apple clothing...everything Apple) but I'll be the first to point out how cool/innovative another device is.

Ya know, even for how much I use my phone, I'm thinking you should take a week off, live in a tent in the mountains without any cell coverage, and not rely on technology if it has that profound of effect on your psyche.

My father in law is a devout Apple apologist. Hes the kind that hated iOS7 and was forced to upgrade when the security was compromised last year. But then he does nothing but complains about Windows 8, even though Windows still supports Windows 7. He buys Windows products just to have them around and trash them, and he wouldn't shut up about how unsafe he thinks my new phone is. I took a lot of joy in sending him the article about the new iPhone hack/virus...

Needless to say, you can't be any worse than he is about them.
